Chinese government encouraging foreign institutions to accept Gaokao exam for admissions

China Education News

A deputy director from the Division of International Education at China’s Ministry of Education has stated that the government is working with foreign countries to have foreign institutions accept Gaokao scores as an admissions criteria. Currently the Gaokao, China’s national college entrance exam taken by 9.4 million students earlier this month, is used in the admissions process of some institutions in the USA, Australia, and Italy.
In May, the University of San Francisco announced that it would admit Chinese students on the basis of their Gaokao test scores and a one-on-one interview, without other admissions requirements. This means Chinese students will have opportunities to study in the US “immediately – without spending an extra year preparing for IELTS, TOEFL,or SAT tests,” said Paul Fitzgerald, president of USF.
